Advancement in Interventional pulmonology ie., dealing with airways disorder and management.
21 year old young lady presented with difficulty in breathing and noisy sounds while breathing. She recently delivered a baby following which she developed heart problem with respiratory failure (lung failure) for which she was on ventilator support for few days. After thorough examination and appropriate investigations she was diagnosed to be suffering from airway narrowing (secondary prolonged ventilator support).
She was referred to the department of Pulmonology, Aster prime hospitals. We performed a procedure Tracheoplasty (procedure in which an airway is widened) using an instrument called rigid bronchoscope and later a stent is placed in the trachea to maintain the airway calibre. The airway diameter which was previously 5mm is now 15 mm. Young lady is now comfortable with uncompromised airway passage!
After procedure: stent placed within tracheal lumen (15 mm in diameter).
